Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur

After exploring Bukit Bintang, head to Chow Kit, your next stop in Malaysia. This area is a popular hangout and culinary hub, especially for younger crowds. Cafés, restaurants, and eateries line the streets here. What sets it apart from Bukit Bintang is its more relaxed atmosphere and fewer busy intersections.

A bonus point of Chow Kit is the view of the iconic landmark, Petronas Twin Towers, standing tall in the distance. This makes it a perfect spot to take photos with the Twin Towers as your backdrop! To get to Chow Kit from KL Sentral, you can take the Monorail KL Sentral–Titiwangsa line and get off at Medan Tuanku Station for MYR 3.4 (IDR 13,200), then walk about 250 meters.

Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur

If you love thrifting or exploring old town areas, then Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown is a must-visit! Here, you’ll find REXKL, a creative space where young Malaysians showcase their handmade arts and crafts. To get to Chinatown from KL Sentral, you can take the LRT Putra Heights–Gombak line and get off at Pasar Seni Station for MYR 1.3 (IDR 5,000). From there, it’s only a 300-meter walk. 

UNESCO World Heritage Site, Malacca

If you’re a history lover, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Malacca is a must-add to your solo travel itinerary! The area is a historic city along the Strait of Malacca, serving as evidence of its past as a bustling colonial trading center.

In this region, you’ll find many historic buildings still standing strong along the strait. Some of the historic landmarks here include the Stadthuys (Red Square), a Dutch legacy, St. Francis Xavier Church, the remains of the Portuguese fortress A Famosa, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, and Kampung Kling Mosque.

This UNESCO World Heritage site's diversity is complemented by Jonker Street, a long road lined with culinary delights, restaurants, cafés, and Malacca's signature souvenir shops. 

To reach this area, you can take a KL–Melaka bus from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur and get off at Melaka Sentral. The one-way fare is MYR 14 (IDR 54,300). From there, you can continue on bus number M100 to Kota Melaka for MYR 1.5 (IDR 5,800) and get off at Red Square. Alternatively, you can book an online taxi from Melaka Sentral straight to Red Square for around MYR 10 (IDR 38,800).
