Here's the List of Favorite Travel Destinations in 2026!

Every year brings new favorite destinations for travelers around the world. It could be because a country has been actively promoting its tourist destinations, drawing more attention, or simply due to other factors. So, which countries are predicted to be the top choices for travelers in 2026? Let’s take a look at the list!

1.Italy

Italy will host the 2026 Winter Olympics. This international sporting event features competitions for sports played on ice and snow, such as ice hockey. The number of participating countries is usually limited, since many —such as Indonesia—don’t experience winter, which means their facilities for such sports are not yet sufficient to compete.

Although Indonesia won’t be competing in this Olympics, you can still make the most of this occasion by witnessing the excitement firsthand in Italy. The games will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6 to February 22, 2026.

2.Japan

Japan remains one of the countries expected to attract a large number of travelers. Its natural beauty—especially during spring and autumn—is too stunning to miss for anyone who has never been there. What’s more, Japan offers visa-free entry for citizens of several countries, including Indonesian nationals with electronic passports.

Another interesting thing about Japan is that every prefecture has its own unique charm and target audience. For nature lovers, Kyoto and Hokkaido are must-visit destinations. Meanwhile, for those drawn to Japan’s entertainment scene, like idol culture, Akihabara in Tokyo is the place to visit.

However, if you plan to visit Japan soon, it’s best to prepare a larger budget, as upcoming regulation changes are expected to increase travel costs, particularly for international tourists.

3.Canada

One of the Canadian destinations predicted to draw travelers is Nibiischii National Park, located in the province of Québec. Nibiischii National Park covers an area of more than 24,000 km² and includes two of the province’s largest wildlife reserves.

This park is the result of collaboration between the government and the Cree Oujé-Bougoumou Indigenous Nation and is now managed by them. When you visit, you can experience the Cree Oujé-Bougoumou culture firsthand while soaking in the park’s breathtaking natural scenery. Just make sure you understand and follow the local rules set by the Cree people, as each Indigenous nation has its own customs, and it's important to respect them.

4.China

The growing global popularity of Chinese dramas has also boosted tourism to the country. Many fans travel there to visit filming locations of their favorite shows or attend events featuring their favorite stars.

The Chinese government supports this trend by streamlining the visa application process and improving travel facilities for tourists exploring the country. One of the top destinations is the Forbidden City, the world’s largest palace complex, covering around 150,000 m². If you’re planning to visit, joining a guided tour is highly recommended so you can explore the vast palace grounds more easily.

5.Spain

Natural phenomena always draw attention, and one of the most fascinating is a total solar eclipse. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon completely covers the sun. This phenomenon happens roughly every 18 months, but it can take centuries, around 300 years or more, to occur again in the same location.

In 2026, the total solar eclipse will be visible only in countries near Antarctica, and Spain is one of them. So, if you’re curious to witness a total solar eclipse, you can visit Spain before August 12, 2026, because that’s when the phenomenon will take place.

Of course, while you’re in Spain, it would be a shame to only watch the eclipse, right? Make the most of your trip by visiting some of the country’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the Alhambra, or tour the famous football stadiums if you’re a sports fan.

That wraps up our list of countries predicted to become travelers’ favorites in 2026. From the list above, which one’s on your radar? Whichever country you choose, don’t forget to get Overseas Travel Insurance from MSIG Indonesia before your trip, so you can explore with peace of mind and enjoy every moment of your vacation to the fullest.
